Job summary

The City of Olathe is seeking a Process Instrumentation Technician to join the Environmental Services Plant Maintenance Division in Kansas. The role requires knowledge of water or wastewater processes and hands-on instrumentation, including PLC/SCADA programming capabilities.

Three levels (I–III) with varied pay ranges are defined; successful candidates may pursue certifications within 24 months and participate in scheduled training and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in operating and maintaining process instrumentation (e.g., chlorine, turbidity, pH, and sludge analyzers) is required.
• An associate’s degree supplemented by specialized training or course work in environmental science focused on the maintenance and operation of water or wastewater facilities is required.
• Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.
• A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record is required.
• Must obtain Class I Water or Wastewater Operators certification or ABC Class I Plant Maintenance Technologist certification within 24 months.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates operation of process instrumentation by preparing documentation to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures; repairs/replaces process instrumentation to maintain regulatory compliance and process integrity.
• Performs calibrated maintenance on all process instrumentation and maintains related documentation.
• Pursues technical training related to process instrumentation; develops and delivers training; mentors peers for coverage.
• Manages outside vendors and contractors to ensure proper documentation of program changes and updates.
• Performs on-call duties and overtime; participates in city-wide snow removal; supports safety culture in the department.
