Job summary

Unified Government of Wyandotte County is seeking an Instrumentation Technician in Kansas City, KS. The role emphasizes independent work on process control equipment, PLC/SCADA maintenance, and calibration in a DOT-regulated environment.

Responsibilities include installation of sensors, maintenance of PLC systems, and troubleshooting under supervision. Candidates should have strong electrical/instrumentation experience and be able to lift up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

4+ years in industrial electrical/instrumentation maintenance.
2+ years PLC experience preferred.
Must pass a written test (70%+).
Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.
KWEA or KDHE certification within 3 years of hire date.
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
Able to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
Ability to work independently or in teams.

Responsibilities

Lead installation and calibration of process control equipment.
Maintain/install computer equipment such as motherboards, monitors, and software.
Install sensors and analyzers (thermocouples, DP detectors, flow meters).
Maintain PLC systems and programming for plant and pump stations.
Perform basic troubleshooting under supervision.
Maintain SCADA and ethernet software systems.
Record work orders, parts, and costs; data entry as needed.
Maintain clean, safe work areas and update schematics as changes occur.
