Job summary

The City of North Port is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to perform maintenance on utility plants and lift stations. You will work under supervision to troubleshoot, repair, and service pumps, valves, piping, and related equipment.

Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, conducting inspections, and maintaining a safe work environment; on-call/emergency response may be required. A high school diploma and 2 years’ experience are expected.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• Two years of experience with operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems in water/wastewater.
• Some plumbing experience preferred; sheet metal and pipe fabrication experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on water and wastewater equipment.
• Operate heavy equipment including man lifts, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
• Lubricate and repair pumps, valves, piping, and related plant mechanical systems.
• Assist in plant inspections and safety-related checks.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of work area; respond to emergency calls when needed.
