Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, replaces, and/or repairs electrical/mechanical components and equipment (pumps, motors, gates, blowers, meters, switches, transformers, fans, belts, compressors, valves, lines).
  • Inspects and evaluates equipment to provide maintenance/repair recommendations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment per schedules or directed.
  • Inspects and tests tools & vehicles; restocks supplies; maintains service vehicle inventory.
  • Fabricates with welding, brazing, and cutting torches.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and manual control systems.
  • Monitors and ensures proper environmental and safety conditions; handles hazardous chemicals safely.
  • Records readings of work performed (motor amps, pumps, performance, parts).
  • Safeguards tools & equipment from loss or theft.
  • Attends weekly safety meetings; adheres to OSHA standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Description
Nature of Work:

This position performs senior-level technical or specialized work in the maintenance and repair of equipment and machines in the Water Plant. Installs, maintains, and repairs pumps, motors, electrical/mechanical controls, valves, pipe work, basic electronic equipment, lift stations, booster stations, pumping stations, water wells, and treatment plants. Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude. Exercises judgment in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Installs, maintains, replaces, and/or repairs various electrical/mechanical components and equipment (i.e., pumps, motors, gates, blowers, meters, switches, transformers, fans, belts, compressors, valves, lines, etc.).
  • Inspects and evaluates equipment to provide recommendations concerning maintenance and repair needs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on mechanical and manual equipment, machinery, and components according to assigned schedules or when directed.
  • Inspects and tests tools and vehicles; reviews and restocks supplies; and performs service vehicle inventory.
  • Fabricates with welding, brazing, and cutting torches.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and manual control systems.
  • Monitors and ensures proper environmental and safety conditions per work site; ensures proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals, cleaners, and caustic solutions.
  • Observes actions and records readings of all work/service performed; (i.e., motor ampere, raw water, pump and motor performance, and part replacement).
  • Safeguards all assigned tools, equipment, and electronics from theft, loss, destruction, and/or negligence.
  • Attends weekly safety meetings; maintains OSHA standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Computer system, telemetry, and computerized maintenance management system.
  • Theory and principles of electrical and mechanical procedures.
  • Theory and practice of pneumatics, hydraulics, and instrumentation control devices.
  • Theory and principles of deep wells, booster stations, water and wastewater plant equipment including pumps, motors, chemical feed system, and associated equipment.
  • Shaft alignment of pumps, blowers, and motors.
  • Mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and process control documents.
  • Following standards for occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Utilizing a wide variety of reference, descriptive design, and/or advisory data.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Work independently.
  • Remains in contact via company phone/radio at all times in the event of an emergency.
  • Clearly communicate and understand information, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with both internal and external contacts.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3+) or more years' of progressively responsible experience that includes skilled electrical/mechanical systems maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
  • Valid Florida driver's license.
