Job summary

Burns & McDonnell's Denver office is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer to support our municipal water/wastewater pipelines department. You will work on water transmission, water distribution, sewer collection, sewer interceptor, and water storage design projects from concept through design.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, 3+ years of civil experience, and a PE is helpful. You will contribute to proposals, design development, and field observations while building

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related degree from ABET-accredited program (water or civil curriculum focus preferred).
• Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering is a plus (completion of master's may substitute for one year of experience).
• Minimum 3 years of civil engineering experience (Colorado experience preferred) with design and construction administration of water/wastewater systems.
• Professional Engineering License (PE) is helpful.
• Capable of executing all project phases including planning, specifications, drawings, construction administration and field observation.
• Strong project engineering history with a proven record of building client relationships.
• Experience with permitting of waterlines and sewer lines through regulators.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Execute water and sewer pipeline and/or water storage design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Review vendor shop drawings and coordinate with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Participate in project scheduling, scope, budget, staffing and construction planning.
• Apply civil concepts, codes and procedures to water engineering projects and prepare specs.
• Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
• Quality review production drawings for design compliance and constructability.
• Coordinate construction administration with field personnel to resolve issues.
• Conduct field observations, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Build relationships with clients and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
• Participate in sales and marketing efforts and lead key pursuits.
• Ensure QA/QC adherence and compliance with safety policies.
• Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
