Overview

The Nexus Water Group team seeks a Water-Wastewater Operator I. Under supervision, performs routine tasks related to water and wastewater treatment operations, maintains compliance with EPA standards, and ensures safety and sanitation.

Work Location and Schedule

Position based near Joliet, IL. Schedule: Monday through Friday. After-hours and weekend on-call may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain treatment equipment, ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Perform repairs and request external maintenance for major issues.
  • Assist with emergency procedures, following safety protocols.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and records of operations and chemical usage.
  • Clean and maintain facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure safety and report concerns.
  • Conduct inspections and handle customer inquiries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of mechanical work experience.

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma; ability to attain First-Level operator license within 1 year; valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current first-level operator license preferred.
  • Experience in chemical treatment or water/wastewater utility operations preferred.

Skills

  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting 75 lbs., walking, climbing, and repairs.
  • Ability to read meters, charts, gauges, and maintain records.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Mathematical skills for chemical dosing calculations.
  • Ability to work well with others and learn software applications.

Work Environment

  • On-call support may be required.
  • Some travel within the service area.
  • Shift work, including weekends, may be necessary.
