Job summary

City of Elmhurst seeks an Assistant Superintendent Water/Wastewater to lead operations across the city’s water production and wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance, asset management, safety, and efficient service.

The role collaborates with internal teams, vendors and regulators, overseeing staffing, scheduling, and contractor work, and providing technical guidance to solve complex operational issues.

Qualifications

• Two years of college-level coursework in biology, engineering, or related field plus four years of journey-level water/wastewater experience.
• IEPA Class C Water Plant Operator certification preferred at hire or within three years.
• IEPA Class I wastewater treatment plant operator license preferred at hire or within three years.

Responsibilities

• Oversee asset management and maintenance planning for water and wastewater facilities.
• Coordinate schedules and supervise contractors to meet project timelines.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and safety across operations.
• Prepare reports for regulatory agencies and assist with bid documents.
• Provide training on safety and proper procedures.
