Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to perform maintenance, fabrication, overhaul and repair of mechanical equipment in water and wastewater facilities. The role requires independent problem-solving and strict safety compliance.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, fabricating parts, welding, operating metalworking tools, monitoring quality, and inputting SCADA data to generate reports. A valid Georgia driver’s license and CDL-B within six months are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; 3 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred in water/wastewater facilities.
• Must possess valid Georgia driver’s license and obtain CDL Class B within six months.
• Experience with mechanical repair, fabrication, and preventive maintenance.
• Safety-sensitive role; random drug testing per policy.

Responsibilities

• Reviews designs, specifications, and products; troubleshoots problems and repairs water/wastewater mechanical systems.
• Fabricates and machines repair parts; welds steel/brass/aluminum; operates lathes and presses; detects leaks.
• Monitors safety practices and trains entry-level crew on safety methods.
• Inputs data from SCADA and runs reports as necessary.
