Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a training program or apprenticeship in the mechanical or electrical trades.
• Four years of experience in repairing water and wastewater treatment plant machinery or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers; confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; and assists with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems, and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations.
• Reviews system designs, specifications, and products, attends pre-construction meetings, and recommends changes in water/wastewater facilities mechanical systems; troubleshoots problems and recommends corrective actions based on skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices; and performs preventative maintenance and corrective repair work on water/wastewater facilities and equipment.
• Fabricates and machines repair parts for equipment; welds steel, brass and aluminum; operates lathes, mill/drill presses, welders and various other metal working power and hand tools; and locates leaks and detects defects in water/wastewater equipment and machinery according to established plans and standards.
• Monitors, reviews and validates work practices for quality control of processes and to ensure adherence to safety standards; and monitors and trains crew members on safety methods and standards.
• Inputs and gathers data from Supervisory Control Data Acquisition system (SCADA) and runs reports as necessary.
