Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks a skilled maintenance technician to perform mechanical repair and fabrication in water/wastewater facilities. You will troubleshoot equipment, weld and machine parts, and operate SCADA-related data inputs to support plant operations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, two years of industrial maintenance experience (preferably in water/wastewater), and a valid Georgia driver's license; safety procedures and quality controls are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in industrial maintenance preferably in a water and/or wastewater treatment facility.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Reviews system designs, specifications, and products, attends pre-construction meetings, and recommends changes in water/wastewater facilities mechanical systems; troubleshoots problems and recommends corrective actions based on skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices; and performs preventative maintenance and corrective repair work on water/wastewater facilities and equipment.
• Fabricates and machines repair parts for equipment; welds steel, brass and aluminum; operates lathes, mill/drill presses, welders and various other metal working power and hand tools; and locates leaks and detects defects in water/wastewater equipment and machinery according to established plans and standards.
• Monitors, reviews and validates work practices for quality control of processes and to ensure adherence to safety standards.
• Inputs and gathers data from Supervisory Control Data Acquisition system (SCADA) and runs reports as necessary.

Salary Range: $20.46 - $32.94/Hour Salary Grade: 12 FLSA: Nonexempt

Purpose Of Classification

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled maintenance, fabrication, overhaul and repair of mechanical equipment located within a water, wastewater, pump stations, lift stations and treatment facilities working under direct supervision in diagnosing problems and facilitating repairs.

Essential Functions

This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; two years of experience in industrial maintenance preferably in a water and/or wastewater treatment facility; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
