Job summary

City of Leander is seeking an entry-level Utility Maintenance I or Trainee to assist in water and wastewater repairs, meter installations, and taps. The role involves physical labor and operating equipment, with on-call rotation and DOT drug testing. Starting salary is $20.00 per hour.

Work schedule is Mon-Thu 6:30 am–4:00 pm and Fri 6:30 am–10:30 am, with potential changes. Requires a high school diploma and a valid TX Class C driver's license; TCEQ licenses and first aid certification are

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class C driver's license.
• TCEQ Class I Collection License and/or D Water.
• Basic first aid certification within 9 months of hire.
• Experience in water/wastewater construction or repair preferred.
• Associate's degree in related field preferred.
• Experience with government entities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Repair water and wastewater mains and prepare pipes.
• Install taps, meters, and service lines to property.
• Assist in excavation and operate tools to access pipes.
• Maintain and operate wastewater treatment plant equipment safely.
• Be on-call for emergency situations and after-hours work.
• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
