Job summary

Durham County Government's County Engineering department seeks a qualified engineer to manage the review and approval of water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects. The role ensures designs meet County standards, regulatory requirements, and future capacity needs across Durham County and related agencies.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering and at least three years of municipal engineering experience, plus licensure (PE) preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure, including design standards and materials.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
• Understanding of applicable state/federal regulations and environmental codes.
• Strong written and verbal communication for technical reviews.
• Analytical skills to evaluate capacity, risk, and constructability.

Responsibilities

• Review water, reclaimed water, and wastewater plans for technical accuracy.
• Assess constructability and compliance with County utility standards.
• Prepare detailed review comments and maintain documentation for approvals.
• Coordinate with engineers, developers, and regulatory agencies to resolve issues.
• Maintain project tracking systems and support permitting and budgeting.
