Job summary

Burns & McDonnell's Water Practice in Denver, CO is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support municipal and industrial water and wastewater projects. You will design, specify, and review treatment processes, piping layouts, and pump stations, while coordinating across disciplines and supporting permitting and client development.

Senior staff may lead projects, mentor engineers, and pursue new work, with an emphasis on delivering compliant, efficient, and innovative solutions for drinking

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental or Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 3 years of related professional experience, or FE exam plus 3 years of related experience.
  • Master of Science in Environmental Engineering may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • 5 years of water/wastewater engineering consulting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of standard environmental engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform process and civil design of water and wastewater projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Develop and review design drawings, specifications, and technical calculations for treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems.
  • Perform hydraulic and process calculations to size unit processes, piping, and pumping systems.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary project teams to meet QA/QC requirements and client expectations.
  • Support permitting and regulatory coordination with state and federal agencies, including drinking water and discharge permitting requirements.
  • Provide construction administration support, including submittal and shop drawing review, RFIs, site observation, and startup assistance.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and contribute to business development.
