Job summary

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a Water/Wastewater Engineer (E.I.T.) with 1–2 years of experience to support municipal infrastructure projects from our Springfield, Illinois office.

The role involves assisting with design and rehabilitation of wastewater systems, performing calculations and analyses, and coordinating with project teams. A BA/BS in civil/environmental engineering and E.I.T. certification or progress toward it are required.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of civil, municipal, water or wastewater engineering experience.
• ABET-accredited B.S. in civil or environmental engineering.
• E.I.T. certification required or able to obtain shortly after hire.
• Familiarity with wastewater collection systems and sewer rehabilitation.
• Experience with CAD/GIS/hydraulic modeling is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and rehabilitation of wastewater collection systems.
• Support sewer evaluation studies and condition assessments.
• Perform hydraulic analyses and system modeling.
• Prepare plans, specifications, reports, permit applications, and cost estimates.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction observation.
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors, utility providers, and municipal stakeholders.
• Review CCTV inspection reports and assist in evaluating sewer rehabilitation alternatives.
• Support project delivery through construction, including responding to field questions and documenting project progress.
• Assist data collection, asset management initiatives, and infrastructure assessment programs.
• Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to wastewater systems and trenchless rehabilitation methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Support sewer system evaluation studies, condition assessments, and rehabilitation planning efforts.
• Perform engineering calculations and assist with hydraulic analyses and system modeling.
• Prepare plans, specifications, technical reports, permit applications, and cost estimates.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, utility inspections, and construction observation activities.
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors, utility providers, and municipal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1-2 years of experience in civil, municipal, water, or wastewater engineering. Internship or co-op experience related to utility infrastructure is preferred.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Certification: Engineer Intern (E.I.T.) certification required or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with wastewater collection systems, sewer rehabilitation practices, and engineering design principles.
• Technical Skills: Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS applications, or hydraulic modeling software is a plus.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Field Work: Willingness to perform field investigations, construction observation, and site visits in varying weather and site conditions.
• Additional: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and work occasional overtime as project needs require.
