Job Description

The Project Engineer is a professional with 10-15 years of experience. This individual will design and/or manage a variety of infrastructure projects (owned by municipalities and local school districts) and will report directly to the principal. Such projects shall include roads, underground utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications submitted by private developers.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  1. Responsible for acting as the client manager to one or more municipalities or other public agencies. The client manager will act as the single point of contact between the firm and the client. They will supervise and coordinate all projects performed in the firm on behalf of the client, ensuring satisfaction.
  2. Develop or implement engineering solutions to help clients improve and maintain their infrastructure.
    • Design transportation, utility, facility, or hydraulic systems or structures (as appropriate) using computer-assisted design or drawing tools.
    • Calculate load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications.
    • Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor to assess project feasibility.
    • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, or other topographical or geologic data.
    • Conduct studies of traffic patterns or environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess potential project impact.
    • Ensure all design activities comply with environmental, safety, and governmental regulations.
    • Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for projects.
  3. Attend regularly scheduled public meetings (conducted by municipal clients) as a Municipal Engineer or Land Use Board Engineer. Prepare and present public reports on topics such as bid proposals, project status, and developmental review projects.
  4. Provide technical advice to clients regarding design, construction, or capital program modifications.
  5. Support field activities of our construction inspection staff, including providing timely data, reviewing shop drawings, and client coordination.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Municipal Engineering experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make public presentations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions for presentation to co-workers and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided design software.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • PE License.

While performing this job, the employee may occasionally work in the field and be exposed to outside weather conditions. The role requires frequent and prolonged computer use.
