Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to join our Water Civil preconstruction team, based in Dallas. You will lead civil cost modeling, take-offs, bid evaluation and GMP development for earthwork, sitework and yard piping on plant projects across the country.

This role collaborates with internal partners and engineers, with emphasis on value engineering and subcontractor coordination. Strong degree requirements and self-perform civil experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, or related major.
• Self-perform civil experience (preconstruction or operations) is strongly desired.
• General knowledge of civil construction, with water/wastewater plant projects experience preferred.
• Knowledge of estimating processes, cost models and GMP.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and geotechnical reports.
• Familiarity with estimating software like HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, or On-Screen Takeoff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Strong math, analytical, organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop or manage civil cost models and GMP estimates for CMAR and Design Build projects.
• Perform quantity take-offs.
• Assist with final assembly of estimate presentations for owners.
• Evaluate bids and prepare scope comparison documents.
• Prepare contractual exhibits for subcontracts and direct information to subcontractors.
• Collaborate with engineers to influence project design.
• Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors and clients.
• Identify value engineering and alternative pricing opportunities.
• Clarify scope, materials and schedule requirements with engineers and owners.
