Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. seeks an experienced Civil Estimator to join the Water Civil preconstruction team. This role supports estimating across water and wastewater projects nationwide, including earthwork, sitework, and yard piping. Offices in Phoenix, Dallas, or St. Louis welcome applicants.

The estimator will lead civil cost models, bids, and GMP development, collaborating with engineers and subcontractors to deliver accurate estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, or related major required.
• Self-perform civil experience (preconstruction or operations) is strongly desired.
• General knowledge of civil construction and cost models including GMP processes is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs and geotechnical reports.
• Knowledge of estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, OST) is advantageous.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Develop or manage civil cost models and GMP estimates for CMAR and Design-Build projects.
• Perform quantity take-offs and prepare estimate presentations.
• Collaborate with engineers to influence project design and value engineering.
• Review bids and prepare scope comparison documents for owners.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to prepare contractual exhibits and documents.
• Build relationships with subs, vendors and clients; represent McCarthy at events.
• Support internal estimate review and final estimate assembly.
