Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids is seeking a skilled supervisor for a 135MGD water filtration facility, reporting to the Water Plant Supervisor. You will oversee trades and operations, ensure safety and environmental compliance, and manage records, reports, and inventories.

The role requires an Associate’s degree in Public Administration or related field and at least three years of related experience, with potential for equivalent combinations of training and education.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Public Administration or a related field.
• Three years of related work experience.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, prioritizes, coordinates, schedules, assigns and evaluates the work of subordinates; provides training and counseling as needed; handles complaints and grievances; takes disciplinary actions as needed.
• Supervises and directs the operation and maintenance of city owned and operated facilities; schedules and prioritizes work to assure efficient operation and maintenance and optimal performance.
• Ensures proper safety and environmental standards are followed.
• Inspects work and oversees its proper completion.
• Maintains records and logs using computers; prepares reports; ensures supplies and equipment are available; orders materials as needed; maintains inventory.
• Assists in preparing the annual budget and expenditure of funds; participates in system modifications and special projects.
• Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public and utility customers; provides technical assistance as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
