Job summary

The City of Aurora’s Water Service Locate team is seeking a detail‑driven technician to identify and mark underground utilities accurately. You will read maps, respond to excavation notices, and document findings using a mobile tablet in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Responsibilities include interpreting utility prints, communicating with excavators and colleagues, and operating locating equipment to ensure safe, compliant work. A valid Colorado Driver License is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 1 year related experience preferred; will be confirmed through market study.
• Colorado Driver License with a good driving record required.
• Preferred: one year of utility locate experience.
• Knowledge of state/local damage prevention regulations and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Use mobile tablet to receive, document and close out excavation notices.
• Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify underground utilities.
• Communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel regarding underground facilities.
• Operate electronic locating equipment to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
• Provide accurate documentation and sketches of locates; respond to excavation notices during normal hours and after hours.
