Job summary

City of Punta Gorda is seeking a skilled and licensed technical position responsible for proper plant operation and monitoring of the treatment process at the Surface Water Treatment Plant. This role requires a Florida Class "A" Water Operator license and five years of plant operations experience.

The selected candidate will monitor processes, adjust chemicals, record data for state reports, and supervise Operator Trainees on shift.

Qualifications

• Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment.
• Read, interpret and calibrate gauges and instruments.
• Take liquid and solid samples and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Diagnose operating problems and take corrective actions.
• Make independent technical decisions to maintain proper treatment.
• Maintain records and compile data into written reports.
• Perform maintenance and installations to pumps, valves and monitors.
• Read technical manuals, drawings, schematics and diagrams.
• Schedule maintenance and repair of water treatment plants.
• Solve problems logically and safely.
• Complete safety training including CPR and SCBA.
• Operate office equipment and software applications.
• Adapt to changing technologies and learn new systems.
• Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the treatment process by visual and lab testing as per operations guidelines.
• Adjust chemicals of the treatment process to adhere to treatment.
• Maintain proper and adequate operations log. Record test results and all other required data for state monthly reports.
• Monitor the operation of plant equipment, i.e.: chemical pumps, high service pumps, sludge pumps, for proper operations.
• Maintain and monitor adequate system pressure through surveillance of control board.
• Coordinate after-hours emergency call-out as per procedures.
• Perform maintenance/custodial duties as required each shift at the main plant and remote sites.
• Oversee the activities of the Operator Trainees and/or Utility Maintenance Workers on their assigned shift.
