Job summary

City of Winston-Salem is seeking an intermediate skilled trades worker to assist in operating and maintaining the water treatment plant. You will regularly tour the plant, read meters, perform laboratory tests, and monitor SCADA systems under supervision.

The role supports the Senior Utilities Plant Operator, with responsibilities including defect reporting and occasional substitution in their absence. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with minimal experience or equivalent.
• Ability to perform routine skilled work and operate water treatment equipment.
• Willingness to pass a job assessment including math.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior plant operator with operation and maintenance of water treatment plant.
• Make regular plant tours to inspect engines, pumps, tanks and filters.
• Record readings from meters and instruments and perform lab tests.
• Report defects to maintenance staff and substitute for senior operator when needed.
• Monitor plant operations and distribution via SCADA and adjust chemical dosages as directed.
