Job summary

Stafford County is seeking qualified Water Plant Operators to join our team. Positions involve operating, maintaining, and monitoring a drinking water treatment facility in compliance with SDWA, VDH, EPA, and DPOR standards.

Candidates must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies. There are four levels with escalating pay ranges and opportunities for career growth, from Class IV to Class I.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of drinking water treatment principles and regulations.
• Understand coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection processes.
• Working knowledge of SCADA and process automation systems, including cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Operates and monitors all phases of the water treatment process to ensure SDWA and EPA compliance.
• Monitors and records readings from gauges, meters, SCADA systems, and other plant instrumentation.
• Performs routine process control tests following Standard Methods.
• Adjusts feed rates for coagulants, disinfectants, and other chemicals to maintain water quality objectives.
• Inspects and maintains pumps, valves, and related components for reliability and safety.
• Collects samples for bacteriological and chemical analysis as required.
• Maintains operational logs and daily production reports.
• Participates in start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
• Responds to alarms and system upsets with corrective actions.
• Follows lockout/tagout, confined space, and hazardous chemical handling procedures.
