Job summary

The City of Fort Smith is seeking a Water Plant Operator I-IV for Lake Fort Smith to ensure safe drinking water under supervision and to maintain plant equipment per EPA and state standards. You will operate feeders, pumps, and controls, perform analyses, and maintain records in a compliant, accurate manner.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and a plan to obtain Grade I/IV Water Operator licenses and a Class I Wastewater license within specified

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain Grade I Water Operators License within one year.
• Ability to obtain Grade IV Water Operators License within three years.
• Ability to obtain Class I Wastewater Operators License within two years.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain chemical feeders, chlorinators, filters, pumps and related equipment.
• Monitor plant controls and adjust processes to ensure peak performance.
• Perform water analyses to verify proper treatment.
• Maintain computerized plant records accurately.
• Follow safety practices and wear PPE at all times.
• Attend required trainings and meetings as directed.
