Job description

Under general supervision of the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, work involves monitoring the plant operations; performing water quality tests, performing needed preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to the water treatment plant related facilities and equipment. Also includes recording chemical and flow meter readings, maintaining/updating records and logs.

Operate the water treatment plant in accordance with regulations and guidelines outlined by state and federal agencies. Monitor water treatment plant SCADA systems, inspect the plant and equipment including pumps, chemical feeds, and laboratory equipment ensuring effective/efficient operations of various functions of the plant.

Monitor flow meters, gauges, records data, and maintains a variety of logs/records including production reports, operational logs, chemical checks, etc.

Collect water samples required for laboratory analysis; conducts water analysis tests and maintain records of findings and water characteristics. Calibrates test equipment.

Preform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, diagnose malfunctions and make necessary repairs on the water treatment plant equipment and related systems. Make minor electrical, and/or plumbing repairs as needed.

Lubricate and change oil in motors, pumps, gear boxes, and drive units; perform periodic routine maintenance on water treatment plant equipment.

Handle various chemicals necessary for water treatment in a safe manner using the proper PPE.

Perform mowing and grounds keeping around the water treatment plant facility, water towers, sample sites, etc.

Perform general housekeeping and cleaning of the facility to include sweeping, mopping, dusting and painting as needed.

Subject to after-hours call-out for emergency situations.

Has frequent contact with employees, citizens, state, federal agencies, and other city departments.

Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

A Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Ability to obtain one or more of the following as directed by assignment:

  • TCEQ Water Treatment Class D License within six (6) months.
  • TCEQ Surface Water Treatment Operator Class C License within two (2) years.
  • TCEQ Surface Water Treatment Operator Class B License within five (5) years.
