Job summary

City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a Utilities Mechanic to install, maintain, fabricate, and repair mechanical equipment across water treatment plants, pump stations, tanks, and storage facilities. The role requires a minimum of one year of mechanical maintenance experience and a CDL Class B with Air Brakes endorsement at the time of application and hire.

It is open to both internal City employees and external applicants under the posted terms.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in mechanical maintenance and repair.
• CDL Class B with Air Brakes endorsement required at application and hire.
• Experience at a water treatment plant is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, inspects, installs, fabricates, maintains, and repairs mechanical equipment in water facilities.
• Develops preventive maintenance schedules from manuals and records.
• Operates and maintains hand and power tools; fabricates parts as needed.
• Submits daily/weekly maintenance reports.
• Assists Diesel Technicians, welders, electricians, and machinists; may weld and perform related tasks.
• Complies with safety regulations and SOPs.
• Reads drawings and data sheets.
• May perform standby duty for off-duty emergencies.
• All other related duties as required.
