Job summary

St. Tammany Parish Government is seeking a Utility Operator 2 - Water to maintain water treatment systems under supervision. The role focuses on compliance with LDH regulations and safe operation of water distribution assets.

Responsibilities include sampling, paperwork, line flushing, hydrant testing, hydrant meters, and assisting in on-site repairs. On-call work on weekends and holidays is required; a valid Class 2 certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in relevant water or wastewater system.
• Class 2 Operator Certification from LDH in water distribution, water production and water treatment OR wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain public water systems in accordance with LDH requirements.
• Take samples for compliance: chlorine residual, bacteria, and profiling.
• Complete required paperwork for compliance.
• Schedule and perform distribution line flushing and hydrant testing.
• Install hydrant meters.
• Assist in repairs at well sites and water mains.
• Perform water quality investigations in response to customer complaints.
• Be on call weekends and holidays.
• Work scheduled routes on weekends and holidays.
