Job summary

City of Decatur is hiring a Maintenance Technician I in the Public Works Department to keep water treatment equipment, pumps, and facilities running safely and reliably. You will troubleshoot mechanical failures, rewire control panels, weld components, and locate plumbing leaks in a hands-on role with a supportive crew.

Requires four years in mechanical or electrical trades or related maintenance; completion of an approved apprenticeship or certification; and a valid Illinois driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or vocational training.
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship or equivalent certification in mechanical or electrical trades.
  • Valid State of Illinois Class D driver's license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain water treatment equipment and facilities.
  • Perform electrical work and welding on components; install wiring and controls.
  • Repair or replace pumps, heaters, and related mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Make plumbing repairs and replace water lines as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and work orders; operate independently or with a team.
