Job summary

Decatur Utilities is seeking a maintenance technician to repair and maintain pumps, engines, valves, piping and control systems at the water treatment plant. You will read engineering drawings, keep logs, and support plant operations with a safety-focused team.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 4–6 years of related experience, and a Grade I certification within 18 months; a Class B CDL and CPR/First Aid are also required or pursued.

Qualifications

• Must have High School diploma or GED with 4–6 years of related maintenance experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and able to read manuals and drawings.
• Alabama Water or Wastewater Grade I Certification within 18 months; valid Class B CDL; CPR/First Aid and safety training.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on water and wastewater equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
• Maintain daily work inspection logs and monitor plant equipment performance.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' instructions, blueprints, and drawings.
• Inspect pumping stations and assist in developing maintenance standards with supervision.
• Diagnose failures, recommend process changes, and support emergency plant operations.
