Job summary

City of Apache Junction seeks a Water Utility Maintenance Worker to perform construction, maintenance and repair duties in the Water District, including hydrant and water main work, flow testing, and meter reading. The role requires field experience and the ability to operate trucks and equipment in outdoor environments.

The position entails following safety protocols, coordinating with GIS mapping, and being available for emergency responses.

Qualifications

• Education: high school diploma or GED and 1 year outdoor construction or maintenance experience.
• Must be able to operate heavy/light trucks and equipment.
• Respirator certification required prior to appointment; additional licenses may be required within one year.
• Pre-employment may include background check, drug screening, and driver’s license verification.

Responsibilities

• Read meters, replace meters, turn water services on/off, replace damaged meters and hydrants, and inspect service lines.
• Respond to customer inquiries about water quality and high usage; collect water samples and investigate leaks.
• Assist with valve maintenance and GIS mapping using GPS coordinates.
• Install, maintain and repair water mains, service lines, hydrants, and meters; perform flow tests and hydrant flushing.
• May work in emergencies and operate vehicles and construction tools; ensure safety protocols are followed.
