Job summary

The City of Chicopee's Water Division is hiring a Water System Maintenance Worker. Under supervision, you will perform skilled and semi-skilled manual work for water mains, service connections, hydrants, meters and valves, and may respond to emergencies at night, on weekends, and holidays.

Position requires MA Class B CDL (A CDL preferred); shift is Mon–Fri, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with 40 hours per week and union status. Benefits include comprehensive plans and retirement options.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Working knowledge of water treatment and systems operations.
• Experience with a wide variety of hand tools, air tools and hydraulic tools.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair water mains and appurtenances.
• Install and repair water service connections.
• Operate, clean, and maintain tapping and drilling machines.
• Operate, clean, and maintain pumping equipment used in the installation and maintenance of water mains and service connections.
• Patch trenches and excavations with bituminous and concrete materials.
• Wash and clean all motor vehicles as directed by foreman.
• Maintain material stock on utility truck as directed by supervising authority.

Employment Status: UFCW Laborer’s Union, Non-Exempt, Full-Time(40 Hours)

Schedule: Mon – Fri 7:00AM – 3:30PM

Certifications/Licenses Required: MA Class B CDL License, Class A CDL License Preferred

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Water Division is hiring a Water System Maintenance Worker. Under supervision/direction, the Water System Maintenance Worker will work with personnel, equipment, and resources to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual work in the construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of a water system including water mains, service connections, hydrants, meters, and valves. In this role, one must be available for emergency work in the event of a water main failure (nights, weekends, and holidays), and additionally may be required to work Emergency Night Stand-by Duty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE

• Install and repair water mains and appurtenances.
• Install and repair water service connections.
• Operate, clean, and maintain tapping and drilling machines.
• Operate, clean, and maintain pumping equipment used in the installation and maintenance of water mains and service connections.
• Repairs trenches and excavations by patching with bituminous and concrete materials.
• Washes and cleans all motor vehicles, as directed by foreman or other supervising authority.
• Maintains material stock on utility truck as directed by the supervising authority.
