Job summary

City of Moline, IL seeks a Water/Wastewater Utility Worker to perform manual and semi-skilled mechanical tasks in installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems. Work is performed under close supervision with some independent judgment in work methods.

Responsibilities include operating dump and utility trucks, assisting with jetter/vacuum sewer cleaning, and handling hand and power tools. Must have a high school diploma or GED and obtain a Class B CDL with endorsements within 45 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; experience in mechanical maintenance and underground construction; experience with underground piping systems.
• Knowledge of hand and power tools and safety precautions; health hazards of sanitary sewage.
• Ability to read sketches/plans/diagrams; follow instructions; communicate effectively with the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor including digging, lifting, loading, cutting and fastening.
• Operate dump trucks, utility trucks and other vehicles.
• Assist with operation of jetter/vacuum trucks for sewer cleaning.
• Operate hand and power tools, jackhammers, rock drills, pumps and other construction related equipment.
• Perform labor in the installation, repair and maintenance of utility system components.
• Complete collection system repairs in accordance with SOPs to protect public safety of the sewer system.
• Assist in set up of traffic control devices and shoring systems.
• Assist in performing leak detection, hydrant flushing, pressure testing and chlorination of new water main construction and other distribution related activities.
• Assist in performing inflow investigations, smoke testing, manhole inspections and camera inspections.
• Perform basic building and grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, painting, washing and snow removal.
• Other duties may be assigned.
