Job summary

The City of Winchester is seeking a Public Services worker to perform hydrant repairs and testing, locate underground utilities, and assist with water and sewer maintenance. The role includes meter reading and data entry, leak checks, and meter installation/removal.

Responsibilities cover maintenance on pumps and equipment, use of basic hand tools, and snow/ice removal with possible 12-hour shifts including nights and holidays. A valid CDL-B with tanker endorsement by probation end is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required; some related construction/plumbing experience preferred.
• Valid and appropriate driver’s license and ability to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement by end of probation.
• Ability to read and comprehend; communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and services (testing included) fire hydrants.
• Locates underground utilities using maps, rods and electronic equipment.
• Assists in preventative maintenance on water and sewer lines.
• Reads water meters and enters data into handheld devices.
• Checks meters for leaks and performs repairs as needed.
• Installs and removes water meters; assists in repairs of lines.
• Supports maintenance on pumps, motors and equipment.
• Uses hand tools for water/sewer work and makes taps.
• Snow/ice removal; may include 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Assists in other Public Services areas as needed.
• Contributes to a positive work environment.
