Job summary

Requirements include high school diploma or GED, Michigan CDL with air brakes and N endorsement, S-4 certification with potential for S-3, and the ability to read blueprints and perform strenuous tasks in outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Minimum of one year in maintenance/repair of water and sewer systems.
• Valid Michigan CDL, Group A with air brakes and N endorsement.
• S-4 Certification required; ability to obtain S-3 within two testing cycles.
• Knowledge of basic construction, repair, and maintenance methods.
• Knowledge of safe work practices in hazardous conditions.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
• Uses computers and handheld devices to collect and communicate information.
• Acceptable attendance record.
• Ability to operate common tools and heavy equipment ( excavator, backhoe, loader, etc.) and forklift license.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove water/sewer connections, mains, meter pits, hydrants, valves, meters.
• Repair and maintain water/sewer mains, valves, hydrants, basins, and manholes.
• Install, repair, and remove water meters; inspect and report issues.
• Record water meter readings and report leaks or defects.
• Build catch basins and sidewalks; form and pour cement.
• Clean sewers and basins; apply deodorizer and root killer as needed.
• Perform routine checks on hydrants and valves; document findings.
• May lead a crew; prepare work orders and material records.
• Safely operate vehicles and power tools; may use backhoe/loader/sewer equipment.
• Backfill excavations after maintenance; shut off hydrants during events as needed.
• Read maps and utility prints; locate mains using field measurements.
• Assist in yard/stockroom tasks; perform other duties as required.
