Job summary

Grand Traverse County is seeking a skilled technician to operate, repair, and maintain water distribution and sewer collection systems. You will work in a team to meet objectives, with overtime possible in emergencies. Responsibilities include meters, hydrants, and line repairs, plus safety and record-keeping duties.

Required is a high school diploma or GED and a certified technical training program, with six months of related experience preferred. A background check may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, and completion of an approved certified technical training program.
• Six months experience in sewer and water system operation/maintenance preferred.
• Directly related education and training may substitute for experience if there is demonstrated knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the work.

Responsibilities

• Locates and marks existing underground water and sewer pipelines, service leads, valves, and manholes.
• Installs, services, repairs, and tests water meters.
• Operates, installs, repairs, and maintains water services, including activating service and inspecting stations.
• Repairs hydrants, water mains, and water service lines.
• Inspects sewer lines, grease traps, and manholes for proper installation and safety.
• Maintains records, logs, and related items such as as-built drawings and work orders.
