Job summary

Cobb County Government’s Water System Maintenance Division seeks skilled technicians for heavy outdoor utility work. You will handle water and sewer line maintenance, use GPS/GIS maps for site mapping, and perform related duties across shifts with on-call requirements.

The role requires CDL and safety certifications, and includes operations of various hand tools and equipment, with emphasis on physical endurance and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED supplemented by two years of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of water and/or sewer utilities.
  • Valid Driver's License required; Class A CDL within one year of assignment.
  • Certifications within nine months: Confined Space Entry, Trenching and Excavation, Flagger.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace water and sewer lines and related components; locate manholes, connections, valves, and utilities; inspect and evaluate system condition.
  • Read maps; use GPS and GIS maps; update department database with location details.
  • Gather tools and equipment; transport materials; perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs; notify supervisor of equipment needs.
  • Perform roadway cuts and landscape restoration as part of repair work; assist with site preparation.
  • Operate and maintain equipment (jackhammer, saws, pumps, CCTV) and follow safety procedures; provide emergency coverage as needed.
