Job summary

The City of Johnson City is seeking a Public Service Worker for Water & Sewer Services to assist the Line Maintenance and Construction Division with manual labor tasks. The role involves heavy outdoor work, physical activity, and supervision as needed.

Employees will help in maintenance of facilities and grounds, and support in water and sewer projects. Success requires high school diploma or GED plus some manual work experience; valid driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of common hand tools and standard equipment used in maintenance work.
• General mechanical ability and ability to perform unskilled or semiskilled tasks.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Physical strength and agility for strenuous manual labor in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Maintain indoor and outdoor facilities, open green spaces, and grounds; mow and landscape.
• Assist with setup and cleanup of programs, events, and rentals.
• Perform general horticulture tasks: weed, mow, prune, fertilize, trim, edge, snow removal.
• Sweep streets, sidewalks, and public areas; collect refuse and brush.
• Load materials and operate light equipment under supervision.
• Repair buildings and facilities; wash and maintain service vehicles.
• Assist in water service installation, mains, hydrants, and sewer maintenance.
