Job summary

CITY OF PEEKSKILL in Peekskill, NY is seeking a Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker Grade 2 under general supervision. You will supervise a small crew and perform taps on mains, locate leaks, maintain pumping stations, hydrants, meters and related equipment, and respond to emergencies to keep essential water and sewer services running.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, relevant plumbing/mechanical experience, a New York driver’s license, and the ability to perform heavy labor and read

Qualifications

• High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
• One of: one year of journeyman plumber experience; four years as plumber's helper; two years in operation, maintenance, or repair of mechanical equipment.
• Possession of a valid New York State driver's license.
• Ability to read, understand, and record data from gauges and meters.
• Ability to carry out oral instructions and perform heavy labor as required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise/direct the work of a small crew of Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker Grade 2 and Laborers.
• Make taps on water mains for customer services and for installing valves, gates, and fire lines.
• Locate leaks, install clamps and sleeves, and perform emergency repairs.
• Maintain pumping stations and equipment for continuous operation.
• Install, repair, and reset hydrants, valves, meters, pumps, and related water distribution equipment.
• Read, replace, and repair water consumption meters as needed.
• Respond to emergency calls and support housekeeping and custodial duties as required.
