Job summary

City of Gastonia is seeking a supervisory professional to oversee the installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of municipal water and sewer lines. The role requires coordinating crews, equipment, and materials while ensuring adherence to work plans and safety standards.

The position involves directing division activities in the absence of leadership, performing emergency response duties, and conducting staff evaluations and training as part of ISO/Safety programs.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent with moderate experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing municipal water and sewer lines.
• Experience supervising skilled or semi-skilled workers on a large scale.
• Ability to plan and supervise work over wide areas and establish effective relationships.

Responsibilities

• Inspect water and sewer lines/taps and provide technical advice to crew chiefs.
• Coordinate use of equipment, materials, and manpower for efficiency and economy.
• Supervise installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of municipal lines and related areas.
• Troubleshoot and repair specialized electronic control systems using test equipment.
• Coordinate Safety & ISO training and EMS program training.
• Direct all division activities in the absence of the Assistant Division Manager.
• Handle emergency and unscheduled work requests, keep records, and perform evaluations.
• Respond to public complaints and interview applicants with hiring recommendations.
• Participate in on-call rotation for Utilities Maintenance.
