Job summary

The City of Gastonia is seeking a senior professional to lead the wastewater treatment division, overseeing plant operations and the residuals management program with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry, have 10 years of related experience, and possess NC certifications; a second certification must be obtained within two years, and staff will be supervised.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related discipline.
• Ten years of wastewater treatment plant or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Certification required upon hire or within timeframe: NC Biological Wastewater Operator Grade 4, NC Land Application Operator, NC Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Class 4, or NC Pretreatment Program Specialist Grade 3; second certification within two years.
• NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, and 700 within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs difficult skilled technical and administrative work assisting with the management of the operations of the wastewater treatment division including management of the wastewater treatment plant operations and residuals management program.
• Work is performed under the general direction of the Division Manager Wastewater Treatment.
• Continuous supervision is exercised over assigned staff.
