Job summary

City of Idaho Falls is seeking a Water Service Operator I to perform field locating and water distribution duties under supervision. You will interpret GIS mapping, locate underground utilities, and coordinate with City departments and contractors.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of water system experience (or an approved apprenticeship), and a CDL with tanker endorsement within six months. Training includes 24/7 on-call readiness and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year on-site work in a public water system or apprenticeship program.
• CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Field locate city utilities and read GIS maps to identify underground lines.
• Respond to 811 tickets and customer locating requests.
• Inspect and document water service issues and coordinate repairs with teams.
• Complete service/work orders and update GIS data.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and standby shifts.
