Job summary

The City of Idaho Falls Public Works Department is seeking a Water Service Operator to perform field locating and customer service tasks related to drinking water and pressurized surface water systems.

You will use GIS maps, locate equipment, and coordinate with crews to ensure safe, reliable water delivery and compliance with Idaho regulations. This on-site role requires working shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; minimum 1 year water system experience.
• Ability to read GIS maps, blueprints, and locate utilities.
• Valid Class A or B CDL; Idaho Water Operator license requirements.
• Must be able to work rotating 24-hour on-call shift.
• Residency within 45 minutes of the work site; CEU renewal every year.

Responsibilities

• Perform field locating of City utilities; respond to 811 tickets and locate requests.
• Operate locating equipment; mark utilities with APWA color codes.
• Troubleshoot water and pressurized irrigation issues; document findings.
• Respond to emergencies and disconnect water services when needed; coordinate with crews.
• Assist with snow plowing and related duties as required.

Education

High school diploma or GED

IDOPL apprenticeship program

Equivalent experience as determined by Idaho Department of Professional Licensing

One year of professional experience in field location of existing utilities
