Summary
The primary function of this position is to instruct swimming and water safety classes at the Aquatics facility for patrons of all ages.
Responsibilities
- Instruct various levels of swimming, including strokes such as front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly, etc., for students from infants to adults.
- Teach basic diving, safety, and survival skills.
- Collaborate with lifeguards to ensure safety during swim lessons.
- Enforce pool safety standards and facility rules.
- Plan and organize instruction methods based on guidelines from the Program Manager and certifying organization.
- Develop and adapt swim programs according to student ability and promote progression.
- Provide feedback to parents/guardians on student progress.
- Inspect equipment and ensure compliance with health standards.
- Administer assessments and certifications as per DoD, DON, and CNIC policies.
- Complete records and reports of lessons and assessments.
- Assist in developing special programs and activities.
- Maintain a safe environment through regular equipment cleaning and safety checks.
- Provide information via phone about facility hours and programs.
- Handle cash and process payments accurately.
- Respond to emergencies and complete incident reports.
- Work with hazardous materials safely.
- Verify patron identification for access control.
- Participate in ongoing training to improve teaching skills.
Requirements
- Current certifications: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, CPR for Rescuers, First Aid with AED, Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Must have a bank account for direct deposit.
- Successfully pass E-Verify.
Qualifications
- All five certifications listed above must be submitted with the application.
- Knowledge of instructional methods, assessment policies, and safety equipment.
- Ability to swim 300 yards in less than 10 minutes.
- Ability to instruct swimming and water safety skills across all age groups.
- Ability to enforce safety regulations and handle water rescues.
- Effective communication skills.
- Flexible work schedule including holidays, weekends, and evenings.
Additional Information
Salary depends on experience and education. Some roles have special requirements. A one-year probation may be required. Spouse preference applies for eligible military spouses. Must comply with federal drug-free workplace policies and registration with the Selective Service if applicable.
