Prince William County is seeking a Water Safety Instructor to teach beginner and intermediate aquatic classes at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center and the Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center. The Department of Parks and Recreation has 8 aquatic facilities to include: 2 indoor pools, 4 community pools and 2 waterparks. The aquatics department serves over 400,000 visitors a year. We offer a number of aquatic programming options, with nearly 7,000 participants per year. Team DPR is looking to hire new Water Safety Instructors for our indoor pool at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center and Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center.
This class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents performs routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Instructors in this classification teach beginner and intermediate aquatic classes. Example; preschool, learn to swim, private swim, lifeguard training courses etc. May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.
This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable code of conduct rules; providing customer services. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.
Requires special training in specified activity; Customer service principles; Life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques; Basic exercise science principles and theories; Recordkeeping principles; Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations; Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment; Modern office technology; Computers and related software applications.

8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience.
Must be at least 16 years old; Water Safety Instructor Certification required; May require Federal or State background check.
