Job summary

City of Hampton is seeking Aquatics Instructors to teach water safety, fitness, and arthritis classes in our city pools, delivering engaging programs for participants of all ages and abilities.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 16 years old, and hold current certifications from ARC, YMCA or AEA, with one year of instruction preferred. The role includes shift work, safety-sensitive duties, and background checks.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED preferred.
• One year of experience in Aquatics Instruction is preferred.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must possess a current certification from a nationally recognized organization, e.g. American Red Cross, YMCA of USA, Aquatic Exercise Association or equivalent.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances.

• Conduct aquatic instruction in water safety programs, Lifeguard Instructor, and water fitness courses.

What you'll be doing:
Conducting aquatic instruction in the following related areas:

• American Red Cross water safety programs to include: pre-school classes, child and adult swimming classes, etc.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
• Water fitness and aquatic arthritis fitness classes

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduation or successful completion of GED preferred.
• One (1) year of experience in Aquatics Instruction is preferred.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must possess a currentcertification from a nationally recognized organization, i.e. American Red Cross, YMCA of USA, Aquatic Exercise Association or equivalent.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).

Additional Requirements

• Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
• Good hearing and eye sight required.
• Requires shift work to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
