We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Austin, Texas office as a Water Resources Project Director. The selected candidate will provide oversight for a variety of water-related projects involving 1D and 2D hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling for urban drainage analysis, floodplain mapping, watershed planning, closed conduit and open channel design, and asset management. This individual must be competent in performing water resources engineering work and demonstrate a broad knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and design methods. The selected candidate will have demonstrated success in managing the technical and financial aspects of large projects and have strong leadership and people/client skills. Candidate will be expected to prepare proposals, market existing and potential clients, and help represent AtkinsRéalis in the community.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Prepare technical reports in support of projects and provides peer reviews of reports prepared by others.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior engineers to assist in their training and career development.
  • Must be comfortable developing new opportunities with existing clients as well as identifying new clients and contract opportunities.
  • Support business development and marketing efforts.
  • Actively pursue new project opportunities by maintaining contacts with current and prospective clients.
  • Maintains visibility and professional currency by participating in civic and professional organizations and encourage staff to do the same.
  • Prepare scopes of work and cost proposals for a wide range of opportunities with input for various water resources practitioners and disciplines.
  • Apply technical expertise and project management experience to manage project teams on conventional and unconventional projects.
  • Assemble technical data and write reports. Excellent writing skills are a must.
  • Prepare project work plan, scope, schedule and budget, and communicate these to project team members; monitor/manage project production for compliance with schedule, budget and quality objectives. Monitor reports and schedules to ensure appropriate charging of manhours, costs and expenses to projects, and to communicate project progress/status to senior management.
  • Operations Management: Review financial performance of projects being produced and/or managed within the area of responsibility; assist managers in proactively identifying potential problem projects to ensure remedial actions are promptly taken to avoid financial losses and client dissatisfaction; Monitor and enforce compliance with established quality control standards, ensuring that appropriate quality assurance activities are being performed throughout the area of responsibility; Review project QC plans and periodic QA compliance audits on current or recently completed projects; Assist managers in resolving problems concerning work with other work units.
  • Consistently exercise own judgment and provide guidance to others.

What will you contribute?

  • B.S./B.A. or M.S. in Engineering; M.S. or graduate level coursework preferred but not required. Typical incumbent has 16+ years of experience.
  • Proven analytical skills, technical writing, computer and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills; good public speaking ability; willingness to manage projects financially.
  • Experience using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Experience with ArcGIS, and modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, and XPSWMM is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the Greater Austin area is strongly desired; experience with the Texas Water Development Board is a definite plus.
  • Prior project management experience required.
  • Prior small-team personnel management experience required.
  • P.E. license is required.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple projects.
