Job summary

City of Kalamazoo Public Services invites engineering interns to join our Water Resources, Waste Water, and Street divisions. This internship targets students in Civil, Environmental, Traffic, Transportation, or Construction Engineering who seek real-world project experience in municipal infrastructure.

Interns assist project engineers, review drawings, gather quantities, and interact with contractors and the public.

Qualifications

• Intern applicants must be currently enrolled or recent graduates within 1 year of completing a degree.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Detail oriented with good time management.

Responsibilities

• Assist project engineers and managers with project designs.
• Cross reference, verify, and update record data.
• Generate and complete work orders and reports.
• Inspect project construction and ensure compliance with specs and bid documents.
• Interact with contractors, consultants, and the public to provide information.
• Review drawings and specifications for accuracy.
• Research and develop strategies for future projects.
• Prepare quantities for project development and bid packages.
• Coordinate work with ROW supervisor and inspect work within ROW.
• Use computer programs and software to create drawings and spreadsheets.
