Job summary

Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber is seeking a Municipal Intern for Summer 2027 in Grand Rapids, MI. The intern will assist with design tasks for water mains, sewers, and roads, using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, while gaining hands-on exposure to municipal projects.

The position is a full-time internship with opportunities to collaborate across offices, participate in field data collection, and learn from experienced engineers in a multi-office environment. Hybrid scheduling may be available.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus.
• Previous internship or co-op experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing water mains, sanitary sewers, and roadways for local municipalities.
• Perform design calculations, develop cost estimates, and draft plans using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Participate in site visits to gather data and observe field conditions.
• Collaborate with engineers across multiple offices and disciplines.
• Contribute to real projects that improve infrastructure and public services.
