Mountain Regional Water is seeking a civil/environmental engineering intern to gain broad, practical experience with a functioning public water system. The internship blends engineering analysis, fieldwork, system operations, design, and construction experience across the District’s service area.
You will work with the Water Resources engineer and operators on projects such as hydraulic modeling, system capacity, water age, and flushing, plus support major capital projects and sustainability
Mountain Regional Water Special Service District operates a regional water system serving communities across western Summit County, Utah. Our system brings together groundwater wells, surface-water treatment, pump stations, storage facilities, and a 40 square mile distribution network across challenging mountain terrain.
Continued growth in the area creates engineering challenges involving water supply, planning, water quality, sustainability, and capital improvements. Our Engineering and Development team works closely with the Technology and Operation departments to keep the system running today while planning for the community’s long-term needs.
We are looking for a civil or environmental engineering student who wants broad, practical experience with a working public water system. This internship offers a mix of engineering analysis, fieldwork, system operations, design, and construction experience—not one narrow assignment for the entire summer.
The intern will work closely with the Water Resources engineer and experienced water-system operators on projects that may include:
The District is beginning construction on a major surface-water treatment plant expansion in 2027, providing an unusual opportunity to gain exposure to treatment-process design and real construction activity.
The intern will receive mentoring from District engineers and opportunities to work with operators, consulting engineers, contractors, regulators, and other water professionals. Professional development may also include participation in project meetings, local industry events, professional organizations, and conferences.
This is a paid internship beginning in summer 2027. The anticipated summer schedule is approximately 32 hours per week, with the potential to continue approximately 12 hours per week during the spring and fall semesters. The work will be primarily in person at the District’s Park City office and facilities throughout its service area.
