The Town of Apex is seeking a Water Quality Supervisor who will direct staff in providing safe drinking water that meets federal and state guidelines. The role acts as the operating in responsible charge and primary regulatory contact for drinking water and cross-connection issues town-wide.

The incumbent plans, organizes and supervises state-m mandated monitoring and sampling plans, coordinates sampling, and responds to citizen questions and emergencies while reporting to the Utility Operations

Performs responsible technical and supervisory work directing employees engaged in providing the public with safe drinking water that meets all federal and state guidelines. An employee in this position plans, organizes and supervises employees engaged in performing a variety of work associated with providing water quality services for the Town. The position serves as the ORC (operator in responsible charge) and primary regulatory contact for all drinking water and cross-connection issues town-wide. The employee sets work standards and guidelines for water quality based on the Safe Water Drinking Act and Rules Governing Public Water Systems. Work includes assigning work to the team members; developing, maintaining and updating state mandated monitoring plans (Total Coliform, Disinfection Bi-products, Lead & Copper and Asbestos) and EPA mandated Sampling plan (UCMR) and a water system flushing plan; coordinating coliform sampling for newly constructed water lines and all non-compliant sampling requested by the public and other town departments; acquiring equipment and materials needed by water quality personnel; inspecting work in progress; responding to emergency water system needs; managing the hydrant and valve maintenance program; meter testing upon request; and responding to citizen questions and complaints on water issues. Work includes interviewing potential employees and conducting performance reviews on assigned personnel. Work involves emergency call-back. Work is performed under general supervision and is inspected for compliance with instructions, conformance to established standards, productivity of the unit, and general community acceptance.

This position reports to the Utility Operations and Maintenance Manager.
