Job summary

Citizens Energy Group is offering a Water Production Controls Engineer Intern position in Indianapolis. The internship provides hands-on experience supporting Water Production staff, project engineers, and SCADA specialists across operation and maintenance tasks.

As an intern, you will read design guides, contribute to deliverables, collect data, and assist in SCADA-related system improvements while engaging in professional development activities and in-person program events.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as an undergraduate student in controls engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Able to work in-person at Water Production plants and/or Water Distribution sites.
• Completion of at least Freshman year of studies.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365 is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reads, understands, and applies departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures.
• Supports Citizens Quality Program and drives continuous improvement.
• Assists in preparing basic deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
• Performs routine research and makes recommendations for equipment and materials selection.
• Collects and manages data for engineering work and performs basic calculations.
• Collaborates with SCADA Specialists on maintenance and improvement of control systems.
• Coordinates with team members and project leadership; focuses on internal clients' needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Water Production Controls Engineer Intern to join the team! The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Water Production staff including but not limited to support of staff, Project Engineers, Managers, Supervisors and SCADA Specialists. Activities could include data analysis, design, and the providing of technical support for ongoing operation and maintenance of the Citizens Water Production business. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with Water Production SCADA Specialists in direct support of Plant Maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Develops familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures.

• Develops an understanding and complies with the Citizens Quality Program. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.

• Contributes to preparation of less complex deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.

• Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.

• Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.

• Prepares basic calculations following standard methods and principles.

• Work alongside SCADA Specialists in the maintenance and improvement of existing control systems throughout the Water Production and Distribution system.

• Shares information with others as requested. Coordinates with others when directed by supervisor or project leadership.

• Focuses on the needs of internal clients while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Active attendance at a college or university with emphasis in controls engineering, computer science, or related field.
• Ability to work in-person at Water Production plants and/or Water Distribution sites.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

• Experience preferred in use of Microsoft Office 365 applications.

• Ability to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, staff engineers, and other team members.
• Ability to manage project aspects assigned technically and financially while handling multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
• Completed at least Freshman year level of studies.
